Morgan FROM DATE March 27, 1975 SUBJECT OSHA Compliance RE: Consultant Report Of Inspection - March, 1974 The inspection conducted in February, 1974, by Consultant Paul Hale, designated 107 items in the Service Department which were in violation of OSHA standards. The Safety Department reviewed these items with the following results. Sixteen (16) of the items do not exist due to being removed from service, relocation, or other reasons. Forty-four (44) of the remaining 91 items were still in violation of the OSHA standards at the time of the review. Some were corrected during the review after they were pointed out to the appropriate supervisor. The most frequently observed iten. of non-compliance during the inspection and review was inadequate guarding of equipment. During the review, it was found that the tongues and tool rests on pedestal grinders were not being adjusted to the specified clearances from the wheel. We checked several specific grinder inspection forms and each form indicated that the tongues and tool rests had been adjusted. We may need to review the inspection procedure to ensure compliance. The second most significant item found during the review concerned the storage of oxygen and acetylene cylinders. This problem should be corrected after the present Engineering Work Order is approved. Other items in violation of the standards were electrical items and housekeeping conditions.
