A Bieating was held on August 4 with members of the Purchasing* MTS* Scheduling & Derelopoent, and Stores Departments and representatives of the Ruberoid and Aber Cosip&nies to discuss the nev-formula Calsilite insulation* Several units of the Refinery were visited and inspections were Bade of the new-formula CalsHite and the Calsilite which had been formerly produced. It was found that the new-formil* Calsilite was not as porous or pitted as the former but the ruggedness characteristics were the same* The material crumbles and breaks easily with normal handling* Some pieces broke before they could be unwrapped* Additional breakage occurs in binding and fitting* The binding wire cuts through the insulation* When the insulation has to be cut to fit a pipe* the material often breaks before a smooth cut can be made* These characteristics make the use of this insulation more costly. More material and manhours are required when using Calsilite than when using equally priced insulations* Based on the above constants, it is recommended that the use of Calsilite be discontinued. / LSB^ransld. :ECW cc Kr.
