Bittern C. Lewinsohn - Biographical Sketch.
Qualifications: MB BCh., FCCP, MFOM(BCP), DIB.
Dr. Lewinsohn graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand,
Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1952. While training in South Africa
he developed an interest in chest medicine and proceeded to educate
himself further in this field in both England and the United States
during the period 1956 through 1963. During that time he worked at
The London Chest Hospital in England and at Albert Einstein College
of Medicine in Sew York.
In 1963 he returned to England from this country to work as a Member
of the Pnemoconiosie Medical Panel in Manchester. In 1966 he joined
Turner Brothers Asbestos Company Limited, a subsidiary of Turner i
Bewail, where he held the title of Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Lewinsohn
was employed by TBA until he returned to the USA in 1976 as the first
full-time Corporate Medical Director of Raybeato8-Manhattan, Inc.
(now known as Raymark Corporation). Be worked briefly as Corporate
Medical Director for Perkin-Elmer Corporation from 1981 through 1982,
and since July 1982 has been Assistant Corporate Medical Director for
the Union Carbide Corporation, Danbury, Connecticut.
Bis publications number in excess of 20 and he has been a frequent
speaker and participant in many international meetings. Be is the Chairman
of the American Occupational Medical Association's Committee on
Occupational Lung Disorders and a member of the American College of
Chest Physicians Steering Committee for the Section on Occupational
