I got your voice mail regarding Gail. I have not yet talked with Judy, but her prior letter to Jerry including a Huntington recommendation. We may have to chose between Huntington and Gail if we are to move forward quickly

This is not a question of complying with the Shell Standard or the broader reputational areas around the standard. It is a question of the third strand of the issue management, security.
We have used HLS (Shell Canada were that last) and we have also used them in the US. The activists are pretty quiet at present, probably reflecting key activists being in prison in UK/US. However, we are still (and this is not theoretical) in the focus of SHAC.
The call is for me to advise and I would prefer to have clean statement that we currently have no work at HLS UK. The fact that this work does not require animals will get lost as the SHAC campaign is against customers and suppliers (i.e. their income stream).
If the consortium decides to go ahead, we are unlikely to stop it (we should not be pressured by activists) and the first question I can expect is whether there was any other institute that can/could have been used.

Keep me informed as I will have to link with EA and Security and then talk to Allen Kirkley who is
the issue owner if this goes ahead.
Keep the attachments confidential, Paul Sykes has them for info on the way we work HSE

David:
The Shanghai Health Study consortium is facilitating a quality assurance/quality control review of the Shanghai Health Study and Huntington Life Sciences UK was suggested as a resource as they have a working facility in China complete with QA services. As you might recall, the Shanghai Health Study pertains to epidemiology and does not involve animal work. Do you have comments on the use of Huntington for this purpose?
Thanks
