C. 2000* (202) 483-0120 n file copy November 10, 1971 v : RECEIVED To: Participants in Acroosteolysis Registry Program NOV 12 1971 Subject: Status Report LM-WHEELER Gentlemen: The program being conducted at the University of Michigan to maintain a registry of cases of acroosteolysis among polyvinyl chloride workers has now been maintained almost two years on a portion of the residuum of funds remaining at the completion of their study of that problem. In spite of the delays that have occurred in the submission of data from a number of companies, the registry program is accumulating a collection of data that should prove to be of increasing value to the industry. The funds initially appropriated to the registry are now substantially exhausted. There remain, however, additional funds on deposit with MCA still credited to the accounts of the project sponsors. These funds could be used for a continuation of the case registry activity only with the express authorization of the companies involved. As most of the companies now cooperating with the registry program, or who may wish to join the effort, will be represented at the vinyl chloride conference to be held on November 16 at the Hotel Washington, Washington, D. C., it may be appropriate to have your delegates to that'conference be prepared to indicate the view point of your company with regard to a continuation of the regis try program. It is not expected that any extended discussion will be devoted to this topic, but we do hope to secure an indication of .whether sufficient interest in an extension of this program exists to proceed with our effort to define that interest and to explore routes to the funding and administration of a continuing case registry program.
