Era. W* Robinson, Manager of The Texas Company's Signal Hill Labora tory, Long Beach, California, I have the following to report The Signal Hill Laboratory is a Production Department Labora tory and has nothing to do with their Manufacturing Department, Mr. Robinson, Manager of this Laboratory, was contacted. He has not yet received this shipment of 2 cc*s of pure TEL from Beacon, Hew York. He was given one of our Medical Regulations placards entitled "Precautions for Handling Organic Lead Compounds in Laboratories" dated October 1, 1938. I also discussed with him the recommended precaution. Without my asking him specifically ae to what use he was going to put the TEL, Mr. Robinson volunteered the following information The TEL is for his personal use in private medical experi ments. It has nothing to do with the Texas Company. Hs is collabora ting with two Long Beach physicians in experiments along the line of toxicity of lead having to do with skin diseases. He said a smaller amount of TEL would have been sufficient, bit they were sending hi* 2 g o 's . He said both he end the two dootors were ewere of the toxicity of organic lead compounds and would handle it eafely. He pointed out that these experiments had no bearing on the toxicity or the commercial use of TEL in gasoline. He was not sure whether the Beacon Laboratory were sending hi* pure TEL or "Ethyl" fluid, but what he wanted was pure TEL. He wanted to know if TEL was miscible in ethyl alcohol. He also would like some literature, reprints, or anything we had on toxicity of lead com pounds, dermatitis, etc. g 0009854 Mr. A. B.
