Bidwell , a) There are several places where we need the help of your engineers to get some programs under way which will help reduce offware in the Berlin Plant which in turn will increase their gross margin There is a tendency for some of these to slow down when most of the offort is directed to in- clusion of glass fibers in Kaylo slurry We are only several weeks away from incorporating glass fibers in production these others can proceed 1 2 Check the 1 molds 2 x 1 through 6 x 1 and see what has to be done and how much it would cost to cut 1/8 from each side of the core as it extends over the opening between the core and the sidewall of the shell The purpose is to increase this width by at least 1/4 or more if it can be done This vill allow for a wider opening in both the hand pouring nozzle as well as the experimental 36 pouring device which will reduce clogging from long glass and asbestos fibers The core lip cannot be entirely removed for it induces hard stripping if the screeded Kaylo is flush with top edge of core and increased breakage results Breakage of ends and edges occur when stripped when physical shrinkagies low when spacers are hard to renove when spacers are not in large size seg molds This comes from resistance to easy removal when a spacer end bar or other metal fixtures are used to pry Kaylo half section upward to secure release We began almost a year ago to try a vacuum head type of suction cup with fair success We did not have a sufficient bead of Vacuum nor did we spend enough time to develop the correct type . of head or harness for overhead handling of cups Without check- ing I would say broken corners has been an offware defect for 25 of all total offware for a long time You can readily see the savings over equipment cost and installation to be secured here by pursuing this project to a cuccessful conclusion 3 A recent audit of Kaylo products selected as to size and production and type at random resulted in an improvement of last audit This was most enoouraging One thing that stood out was the dustiness of Kaylo light density block and the auditing group recommended that this condition be corrected H.
