CONTRACTORS' OBLIGATIONS UNDER THE C.S.H.A. VCM STANDARD 1910.1017 The following guidelines are prescribed by O.S.H.A. for con tractors working in vinyl chloride regulated areas. As a contractor working within these areas, Firestone expects the following regu lations to be followed without deviation: 1. A physical examination as outlined by the vinyl chloride standard must be offered to all employees who will be working in a regulated area. This physical examination is optional to the employee, but if he accepts the physical, it must be performed upon initial assignment to a regulated area or shortly thereafter. 2. Employees who will be working in a regulated area must be provided training in a program relating to the hazards of vinyl chloride. The training will take approximately one hour and must be provided prior to assignment in a regulated area. Firestone will assist in this area by supplying training materials and guidelines, but the contractor will be responsible for the actual training of his employees. 3. If protective respirators in the form of gas masks and canisters are required, Firestone will supply these and maintain a weekly inspection on each respirator issued. Guidelines will be offered on how this program will be. instituted. The contractor will be responsible for maintaining all records as they pertain to the O.S.H.A. Vinyl Standard, and Firestone will require copies of all such records. 3. Firestone expects all contractors' employees to comply with the rules and regulations as they apply to the O.S.H.A. Vinyl Standard. 6. Prime contractors will assume the responsibility for training, physical examinations and record keeping on all their subcontractors. 7. Firestone will supply contractors with the necessary equipment required for personal vinyl exposure moni toring, _ the contractor will assume the responsibility of obtaining these samples, Firestone will analyze the samples for VCM content and give copies of results to contractor for distribution to his employees.
