OCCUPATIONAL HIAITH A SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING NATIONAL INSULATION MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION

The aeeting was called to order on October 10, 1967, at 11:30 A.M. at Chatham Center in Pittsburgh with the following persons present.

This aeeting was held in conjunction with the official luncheon at the Annuel Industrial Hygiene Foundation Meeting.
Mr. Shecklsr reported a bad press in New Jersey in regard to the relationship of asbestos exposure and mesothelioma. In his opinion, this bad made it even more urgent for his Education Subcommittee to develop the second round Educa tional Program for the IDCNA. As part of this program, a pamphlet is being prepared on the safe handling of insulation materials. Target dates given 'ey Mr. Sbeekler for the Education Subcommittee's activities included a February 1, 1968 consideration of the entire program by the Occupational Health A Safety
, .Committee. The final program must be reedy for preeentatlon at the Regional
H)CNA meetings by April 1 1966 On the subject of possible recommendations in regard to pre-employment and periodic medleal examinations for ths insula tion workers, Mr. Shscklsr requested that Dr. Grant provide his Subcommittee with s recommendation in regard to examination content.
Mr. Sleekier reported his meeting with Dr. X. J. Selikoff at which time he briefly discussed the H3MA Educational Program. Dr. Grant rsiterated his previoualy expressed opinion that the Coamlttee coordinate the Educational Pro gram in preparation with Dr. V. C. Cooper to minimise 10 far as possible con flicting adviee being provided by our group and Dr. Cooper's group.
While at the time of meeting no information was available in regard to the presant status of the U. S. Public Health Service mineral fiber industry study.. Dr. Gnat briefly met with Dr. Levis Cralley of the U. 9. Public Health Service following the meeting. Dr. Crelley indicated he would be contacting various member industries in JflMA to establish the cohorts for the U.S.P.H.S. Records Study of the mineral fiber Industry.
The question of establishing another Subcommittee of the Occupational Health 4 Safety Conittee was raised by Mr. Sheckler. The purpoee of this Subcom mittee would be to respond quickly to inquiries or problems directed to the
