SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
The following are safety precautiohs followed in the operation of Department A-246.
1. SAFETY EQUIPMENT OF EMPLOYEE

Each employee has the following.safety equipment:
(1) Hard Hat
(3) Goggles
(5) Rubber overshoes
(2) Safety glasses
(4) Rubber and canvas gloves
( Special equipment may be issued as necessary for performing a
particular job in a safe manner.

3. FIRES
Department A-246 does not manufacture products which are fire hazards under normal conditions. However, automatic fire extin guishers and sprinklers have been installed to combat any fires that may occur.
4. TOXICITY
Toxicity does not present a serious problem. However, a complete daily change of clean clothes is supplied to each person and time is allotted at the end of each shift to take a shower. Instructions are also Issued to avoid actual skin contact with Pyranols and Inerteens as much as possible and to wash hands and face before eating. Phenoxypropene Oxide (Glycidyl Phenyl Ether) is a strong skin irritant.
5. MISCELLANEOUS
There are many accidents that can occur which may be classified as health and safety hazards. These accidents may result from such things as broken steam lines, acid leaks, steam leaks, etc.
6. SAFETY RECORD
The last lost-time accident in Departments 246, A-246, B-246 and C-246 w a s January 28, 1948. The frequency of minor injuries is low, around one per month for all four departments combined.
TOXICITY DATA
AROCLORS AND PYRANOLS
TOXICITY: This material is a liquid under normal conditions and has a medium toxicity range for liquid injestion and a high toxicit; for vapor 1 mg./cubic meter.
FIRE HftZARD: There is no fire hazard under normal conditions.
OTHER HAZARDS: This material can cause dermatitis, systemic poisoning from the fumes, and yellow atrophy of the liver. There are skin, mucous membranes and eye hazards encountered in handling this material.
TREATMENT AND ANTIDOTES: Call a physicial and remove patient from fumes. (

OTHER HAZARDS: Attapulgus earth can create a dust hazard similar to other dusts that contain silica. TREATMENT AND ANTIDOTES: Consult a physician. STORAGE AND HANDLING: Attapulgus earth presents no special storage problem and should be handled by persons wearing an approved respirator. SHIPPING: There are no special restrictions on shipping.
