A total of six jobs were monitored, four in hydrocarbons and two in PW3. All samples were belew the action level of 0.5 PPM with the exception of the PVC cleaner (7.1 PPM) which exceeded the OSHA permissible exposure limit of 1.0 PPM. The cleaner entered four autoclaves, spending about thirty minutes in each. As re quired, an air line respirator was used while inside the auto claves. Hcwever, during the shift, cleaners were observed cleaning around and inside the necks of autoclaves without respiratory protection. Detector tube samples taken during previous surveys have revealed high levels of VCM during this procedure. FVC supervision should ensure the use of air-supplied respirators during autoclave neck cleaning, which will greatly reduce the possibility of overexposure. TJHilbf Attachment cc: F. M. Buckingham/J.
