"AFFLAIR11 - NEWPORT
XOA-5 TITLE: Mica Classification for NF~i2S-D
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this run is to pre-classify the mica which will
be charged to a batch of NF-128-D "Af.flair" (Improved Gold) in
order to eliminate the fines (estimated - 5 microns) from the
mica charge. This batch, when completed, will be used for
initial Sales evaluation of this grade,
/ ?- /* 37- 7)
BACKGROUND:
Research has found that the fine particles in the original mica and fine TiOg introduced into the "Afflair" during hy
drolysis markedly reduces the brilliance of the sparkle of "Afflair" pigments. By pre-classifying the mica feed, a substantial portion of these fines are. removed before hy drolysis# making subsequent classification much easier.
The current blend of mica will# after classification# be .used in a.plant hydrolysis to prepare a batch of improved Gold "Afflair". . The hydrolysis cake will be subsequently reclassified by a procedure to be determined, will be cal
cined and again reclassified before packaging.
NUMBER OF TEST LOTS; One, An estimated six shifts will be required for classification.
STARTING BATE;
Modification of the existing classifier adjustments will be required. Mechanical work is expected to start on April 7 and classification is expected to start on April 10.
PROCEDURE:
The Hurricane classifier is to be set up with 5 classification
decks, the interior curved edges of the blades to be pointing in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation. 35 louver curtains are to be used and the machine is to be run
