GESCRiPTlON
Bestwall Gypsum Wallboard consists of a glass fiber reinforced core of gypsum rock enclosed between two layers of tough paper. The durable cream face paper is folded around the long edges to reinforce and pro tect the core. The ends are square cut and smooth finished. A strong gray paper is on the back side. The fiberglass content of Bestwall gypsum board prod ucts is an important and unique factor to consider in specifying drywall construction. Literally miles of glass fiber filaments of uniform strength and length are dispersed in the gypsum core to add greater resilience, strength and handling ease.

ADVANTAGES Fireproof--The solid core of gypsum wallboard is incombustible. Gypsum will not burn and will not transfer heat in excess of 212' F. until all its water of crystallization has been driven off in the form of steam. Strength--Readily resists flexural stresses and will not crack or sag when applied to ceilings in the spec ified manner. Flexible enough to conform to mod erately curved surfaces. Joint Treatment--Bestwall Wallboard is finished with tapered edges to accommodate the 8estwall Joint Systems or square edges for exposed joints. Fast Decoration--Gypsum Wallboard, a ''dry" mate rial, allows painting or other decoration shortly after application of Joint Treatment. Economy--Large, lightweight panels go up fast. They may be "scored and snapped" or sawed to size. Drywall--Plant fabricated gypsum wallboard elimi nates extreme moisture in wall constructions.

DESCRIPTION
Bestwall Insulating Gypsum Wallboard is regular gypsum wall board with bright aluminum foil laminated to the back surface. In a single application it provides the advantages of regular gypsum wallboard, plus an effective vapor barrier and insulating qualities. It is manufactured with Tapered or Square edges.
advantages
fcsulation--Panels must be installed with foil side against
the studs. To have reflective insulation value, FHA requires
the foil to face a minimum air space of
The aluminum
Alii, according to U. S. Bureau of Standards Tests, reflects
90% of radiant heat. It provides insulation approximately
qual to 1/2" fiberboard.
fcpor Barrier--Bestwall Insulating Gypsum Wallboard pro
ves an efficient vapor barrier. The aluminum foil stops ..)Por from entering the exterior wall construction, thereby Wucing condensation in stud spaces.

DESCRIPTION
Bestwall Gypsum Sheathing is the only gypsum sheathing reinforced with glass fibers. The "asphalted" reinforced gypsum core is protected by highly water repellent paper, eliminating need for an underlayer of treated building paper (except where required by local building codes).
The 2' wide sheathing is manufactured with precision formed tongue-and-groove edges to provide a structurally strong and stable wall. V-tongue-and-groove edges fit snugly minimizing wind infiltration.
The 4' wide square-edge sheathing, applied vertically, com pletely eliminates the need for corner bracing. It is designed to meet FHA Technical Circular 12 requirements. Racking Tests were made in conformance with ASTM E72.
ADVANTAGES
Fireproof--Exterior wood stud wall is rated for one full hour fire-resistance from both sides in combination with 5/a" Bestwall Firestop or other 1-hour interior construction applied over studs and any exterior finish (wood siding, stucco, brick, veneer, etc.) over i/2" gypsum sheathing.
Glass Fiber Reinforced--This exclusive development as sures greater flexibility and resistance to shock and setting, better nailing qualities and strength.
Water Repellent--The gypsum core contains an emulsion to provide high resistance to water absorption. Meets ASTM 79-54 including the water resistance test.
Economical--Large panels cover large areas quickly and with little waste. Building paper is not required (except where demanded by local building codes). New 4' sheathing eliminates corner bracing, thus keeping labor and material costs to a minimum.

DESCRIPTION
New Improved Bestwall Firestop, combining all the advan tages of the original gypsum wallboard in the original Type "X" gypsum wallboard, has substantially greater glass fiber reinforcement than ever before for increased fire protection, strength and better nailing qualities. The original Type "X" gypsum wallboard provided a full 1 hour fire retardant rating in single layer application over incombustible and combustible framed walls and parti tions and floor and ceiling assemblies. Now through greater glass fiber reinforcement, its fire resistance has been increased to permit two hours when used in a sin gle layer treatment as the ceiling below an incombustible floor and ceiling assembly.
ADVANTAGES
Economical--Large, lightweight panels handle easily and can be scored and snapped to desired size.
Low Cost--New Improved Bestwall Firestop is one of the lowest cost fireproofing materials available today.
Crack-Resistance--Resists cracks due to framing move ments, vibrations and settling. Unaffected by humidity or extremes in temperatures.
MEETS BUILDING CODE REQUIREMENTS
Bestwall Firestop in various assemblies meets Building Code requirements from 45 minutes to 3 hours for in* terior wall and ceiling construction in buildings of all types from highly incombustible to wood frame; and for various occupancies of residential, public and commer. cial character.
SOUND TRANSMISSION RATINGS
Official Sound Transmission Tests of various assemblies make possible partitions with Sound Transmission Class (STC) of 34 to 58. 5/a" Bestwall Firestop over |/2* Bestwall Sound Deadening Board each side of wood studs 16" on center has been proven in a full scale fire test to have a 1 hour fire resistance. This same con struction has an STC of 45.
FIRE RESISTANCE
Bestwall Firestop is recommended where extra fire resist ance is required in residential, commercial and public buildings. %" thickness for years has provided one hour fire resistance in single layer application on both walls and ceilings over wood or steel, while Vfc" thickness has provided 45 minutes fire rating in single layer application when applied over wood framing, for both walls and ceil ings.
See the tabulation on pages 8-9 for greater fire resistance in single layer application for both V2" and %" th'ck Bestwall Firestop.
The extra fire protection offered by Bestwall Firestop * built right into the core through the use of specific amounts of incombustible glass fibers and unexpanded vermiculite.
V2" and %" Bestwall Firestop qualify for Building Cod* acceptance in the constructions as shown in the tab* on pages 8-9. Bestwall Firestop is listed by Underwrit ^ and carries the UL Label for 45 minutes, 1. 2 an hour Fire Resistance in various Designs and fof 1 Hazard Classification of 10-15 Flame Spread.

ONE-HOUR FIRE RATED
WHAT THE TWO-LAYER LAMINATION SYSTEM PROVIDES:
FIRE RESISTANCE--ONE-HOUR (with two layers 3/s" gypsum wallboard). RESISTANCE TO NAIL POPPING--Freedom from nail popping and joint bead
ing which plague conventional drywall systems. STRENGTH!--Two-layer lamination has greater strength than single layer
application. STRAIGHT WALL & CEILING SURFACES--Lamination creates smooth mono
lithic walls and ceilings. SOUND TRANSMISSION LOSS--43 Decibels (Tested before 1957), 38 Deci
bels (Tested 1958). with two layers %" gypsum wallboard.
WHAT THE TWO-LAYER SYSTEM IS!
Lamination is an advanced system of wall and ceiling construction erected by laminating two layers of Bestwall Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum Wallboard to conventional framing. The first layer is nailed. The second is applied with adhesive and reduced number of fasteners. It is the basic sys tem for fire-rated, durable walls and ceilings over framing for residential, institutional, commercial, and multi-dwellings work in new construction or remodeling based on the original two-layer appli cation developed by E. B. Hummer in the early 1930's.
