Charleston, South Carolina PLAINTIFF'S EXHIBIT Dear Dr. Lynch: Dr. Lanza has asked me to get together and send to you all pertinent material in connection with the report Dr. Gardner was preparing for Johns-Manville, and this I have attempted to do. In one folder you will find progress reports that have been made from Hay 5, 1937, through February, 1943, when Dr. Gardner submitted to Johns-Slanvllle an outline of a proposed monograph on AS32ST0SI5. Attached to the monograph are various data identified with It. I have copied from. Dr. Gardner's notes his comments on papers on tho subject by Dr. Gloyne and Dr. Kerewether, also*two outlines which may be of interest to you. There is also enclosed a draft of a paper by Dr. Gardner and Mr. Donald E. Cummings; apparently this was to follow the 1931 preliminary report referred to which was published in The Journal of Industrial Hygiene, Vol. XIII, ITo. 2, February, 1931 (reprint enclosed). I have Included considerable data on the susceptibility of animals to lung tumor, sines this has a bearing on the ASa&STQSlS problem. Dr. Gardner intended to carry on further investigation in this connection, and undoubtedly his successor will wish to do 30. In a second folder are a number of reprints, and in a third folder, the Illustrations Dr* Lanza used in his book. "Silicosis and Asbestosis." All of this material, of course, we would eventually like to have returned to us.
