Samples have been removed from the job for our analysis. It was found to be MK-4 containing cellulosic fiber only, and no detectable asbestos fibers. EXPERIMENTAL 1. Microscopic Examination A crushed sample was immersed in oil of R. I. 1.524 and examined with a petrographic microscope at 100 and 430X. The fibers present were twisted flat ribbon-like with internal details which were characteristic of cellulosic fiber. No asbestos fibers were detected. 2. XRD Analysis A sample was pulverized to -100 mesh and x-rayed. Gypsum and vermlcullte were the only crystalline phases identified. Since the requestor did not want in depth quantitative analysis, no further work was pursued. CONCLUSION The sample is definitely MR-4, since it has cellulosic fiber, vermlcullte, and gypsum.
