Lynam International Lead Zinc Research Organization SUBJECT: Lead conference program and EPA Booklet Enclosed is the program for the Lead Conference to be held in Washington, D. C. , November 12 and 13 that we have discussed. This conference is of particular importance because of its location and because the street dust issue is bound to be presented by Fritsch and his fellow panelists. If you can arrange to meet with Ms. Kelley and perhaps Dr. Frederick C. Green, it would be helpful to point out the danger of the conference deteriorating into a debate on the lead in gasoline question rather then attacking the real problem which is old leaded paint. Attendance by McCabe and others with good scientific credentials with whatever input can be gained through participation and questioning in the workshops would be helpful in trying to keep the issues in perspective. Both Lead and Pediatrics and the recent conference report should be offered as informational literature. Attached also is the section of the new EPA booklet "Health Effects of Environ mental Pollution" that deals with lead. Although the copy is carefully worded it does leave the impression that lead in street dust is causing lead poisoning. Effects on children also are stressed at the beginning and end.
