The following information is provided based on your conversation with Mr. Markel and a subsequent telephone discussion between myself and Dick Lemen, 1. Pittsburgh-Corning Unibestos facility. Attached is a report from Dr. Com on the cleanup activities at the facility. Although somewhat washed-out the photographs in the report give a good indication of the extent to which the facility was stripped. Their conclusion, and that of the Texas Health De partment after their September 6, 1973 survey (also attached), was that the facility had been adequately, cleaned with the shell that remained offering no significant occupational exposure to asbestos. 2. Western Foundry. An OSHA industrial hygienist has cited the facility within the last year for excessive silica exposure. Employees are presently wearing respirators until engineering controls, now under con struction, are completed. Texas made a survey approximately one and one-half years ago and also found silica exposure to be a problem (report attached). 3. Tyler Pipe Industries, Inc.
