Pleat batches of BB-519-D have been very weak to tint, eves with appreciable outs to extender. Here recently the similar lake. KS-325-B* bee been similarly substandard to quality* A slob list study east therefore, requested, and van undertaken in the semi-works.

There la no apparent correlation between tka strength (by brueheut er rabout) of the lake and the strength of its toner. Bar is there correlation between strength ef the lake by brushout and strength by rubout.
Better dry grinding was found to tooroooo tho atrength ef both RS~519*B end 81-325- especially tho former. Addition ef & ef a treating agent, Blaneol (or Leuhanol), in the grind gave an additional "pick-up" to atrength for these colors. Greatest strengths, however, were gained by pulp mining toner with extender end Blaneol, using the Abbe Leaart mixer..

Substandard HB-325-D wee raground with end without Blaneol treatment and results were obtained similar to those for KB-5198. five toner batches ef RT-35T-B (1*2172, except struok at 170*f.) were made to the aemtoworke. my were all strong by rubout vt Rf-329-2 and about equal in strength (5)0 to RT-357-D. Lakes from the above toners, made following exactly the HI-519-D formula, were ell weak, though net ne weak as recent plant material. Strengths ef the lakes, whether by rubout er by brueheut, shewed ne correlation with the toner strengths.

In the Bl*5190 formula* "Binds** is added to decrease separation of toner and extender during formation of the presses!*. Blaneol serves this purpose equally well when substituted for Bladen end at the same tine results in slightly increased strength* Doubling the amount of either Binds* or Blaneol was of no benefit.
