Ingram Chief Engineer Department of Occupational Health University of California _ Berkeley, California Dear Fred: Long, long ago, as a matter of fact in 1943, we published a report, "Occupational Lead Exposure and Lead Poisoning". You may be familiar with this. It is a rather brief document being only 65 pages long including references. We suddenly come up with the fact that our stock is exhausted. We still get occasional orders and if the report should be revised we probably would get more. Bob Kehoe was chairman of the committee that prepared the current: report. This is an awkward time to come to you with a request of this sort but we must face the facts I guess. Do you suppose there would be any opportunity for you to refer the present report to a small committee to determine the desirability of revising it? Of course the alternative to not revising it would be to let the report go out of print and sell it no longer. On the other hand if the report should be revised we would eventually be able to have it printed over again putting out something that presumably would be 17 or 18 years nearer to 1960. From a realistic standpoint it is quite probable that we would be unable to publish anything until early 1962. I say this because I presume any committee that would revise the report would want to present its proposed revision to the Section Council which probably would mean doing nothing of an approval nature until the annual meeting in Detroit in 1961. Of course if the committee knuckled down and really turned the job out in short time it might be that the Section Council would be willing to consider the revision by mail ballot. If the Section decides that the report should be revised we would want to get it out as quickly as possible. Another embarrassing feature of the situation is the fact that we have practically exhausted our supply of the report. I have sponged three copies off of Lead Industries Associates and I have my own file copy. I might be able to dig up one or possibly two more copies here in the office but that is absolutely all we have available for any committee to work on. If need be we would have to have some photo offset copies made that obviously would be rather an expensive proposition and so we would like to avoid it if we can. +(E 0009130 Page two Anything you can do to get the wheels started will be appreciated If you do not have a copy of the report at hand, let me know and I will send you one of the very few we have.
