WWW Copy Home Office, London, S.B.l, HOth July 1932* Gentlemen, I am directed by the Secretary of State to refer to the recent Conference at the Home Office with represen tatives of Employers in the Asbestos Industry arising out of the report made by two of H.M. Medical Inspectors of Factories on their inquiry into the risk of asbestosis among workmen employed in connection with the warehousing, packing and despatch of asbestos products. The Secretary of State has had before him the report of the Conference and, in view of the fact that It appeared that almost all the cases so far investigated could be regarded as covered by the Schemes as it stands, and of the definite assurance given by the representatives at the Conference that the Scheme would be interpreted broadly so as to cover all genuine cases of asbestosis occurring in the pto G a\ w o -a- works, he has decided to defer taking formal steps to amend the Scheme for the present. In the event of any difficulty occurring he would, of course, have to reconsider the position. I am, Gentlemen, Tour obedient Servant, G. R. Buckland. O 3 o o
