Dear Aoug:
...
;
Aside from the Joint Cements (end I've already written to Proko for the latest report on progress for non-asbestos Pre-Mix Joint Cement) there are a number of other items in the line containing asbestos and I'm wondering just what it would Involve and how much of a formulation change would be required for us to easily switch away from asbestos while maintaining the price and quality of the product.
I'm talking specifically about our regular Draaex Powder Texture Paint, Block Filler, Water & Wood Putty and possibly Handy Patch.
The June issue of Consuser Reports features an article on Texture Paints on which our Draaex Ready-Mix comes out as an acceptable product with a number of others, butthe Powder product along with a number of other brands are arbitrarily rejected as unacceptable simply because they contain asbestos.
Of even more serious consequence as an Indication of the mounting pressure, a recent law in Minnesota. We are checking the details and the effective date, but basically it bans the use of Powdered Asbestos either by itself or mixed with any other substance if it Is to be applied with a pressure sprayer or if asbestos dust will eminate from it do to handling, mixing, or cutting for any purposes of constructing, remodeling or improving any building structure in the state.
At this point I don't see how this will apply to the roof coating materials, what can ve do about the others and how soon?
I note that one other item in our line that contains asbestos is the Trax Texture. I'm sure that's made up only on special order.
Cordially yours.
. . Julius
