Lambert (Guest), MCA (part-time only) Plastics Financial Package The report of income and expenditures included with the 'agenda was substantially correct for the first quarter. Additional icome since that time reduced the unpaid assessments to $4,742. The budget for rhe Weatherability Project includes $13,000 (for NBS overhead charges, and it is expected a statement of charges (for the first quarter or first half year will be received in the near (future. [future Group Fall Meetings During the summer months, the Washington office was advised (by Oyster Harbors Club management that they could make no future CMA 040243 2 okings for group meetings such as MCA has been holding at this ub for the past 20 years. No further information had been availle on plans of the club management or the corporation until the ek of August 27. Nothing has been available in writing although t was generally understood the clubhouse would be torn down and eplaced by a small club with very few, if any, sleeping rooms and uld be operated strictly as a private club m the future. Copy f a letter sent to the corporation stockholders can be made availle to any interested member of the Plastics Committee. Many contacts have been made in an effort to find another itable location on the Cape or in New England. Briefly, of those cations considered, only (1) Wianno Club, (2) Wentworth-by-the-Sea, d (3) Equinox House were capable of taking care of the Group; and ';en the Wianno Club was uncertain as to capacity and future policy, visit was made to the New Seabury Country Club on Cape Cod, but ere is no housing available; there is no other potential spot on e Cape for the Plastics Group. Several suggestions were received `m member representatives (but not investigated) on possible use facilities at Hilton Head island (South Carolina), Pinehurst (North Olina), and Bermuda. Several recommended the Seaview Country Club, secon, New Jersey; or. contact, it was learned that our Group could be andled during Labor Day Week 1968 with much the same program arrange rs except accommodations would not be available for Friday evening. In discussion, it was the general opinion that this meeting ould be kept at about the same size and for men only; however, it uld be desirable to increase the minimum allocation of participating >ers from one to two persons in the clubhouse. Following discussion of pros and cons on available meeting aces, on motion, duly seconded, and voted unanimously1. The Secretary was authorized to make a reservation for the Plastics Group to meet at Seaview Country Club, Absecon, New Jersey, the first week of September 1968 for the nights of September 3, 4, and 5 (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and to make a tentative reservation for the same period in 1969. te: The Secretary promptly made a firm reservation with the Seaew Country Club and later confirmed this in writing. idemiologic Study The report on the Plastics Financial Package included a statement f total income and expenses for this investigation of vinyl chloride lymer manufacture. It is expected the funds available will take are of this project. CMA 0402 3 It was the general opinion that this epidemiologic problem -exists in plants of at least three companies other char, those of the 'organization making the original disclosure. The Institute's program completing this work has been slowed because of the inability to rvey certain plants disrupted by strikes. The Secretary stated that industrial hygiene representatives f three states, some representatives of labor unions, and a representaive of the U.S. Public Health Service in Cincinnati had consulted one r more companies on this problem. It is believed that frank disclosure findings to date by management has contributed greatly to the problem ing handled on a rational basis without undue emotion or alarm. A report on 31 cases under the title "Occupational Acroosteo lysis" gust vailable in the Journal of the American Medical Association relates this study within The B. F. Goodrich Company. Copies of this report ve been sent to all interested member representatives participating this study. .lastics Institute - Plastics Education Programs The MCA has been invited to participate in an inter-association iiittee on this subject. Following discussion, it was concluded that fditional information should be obtained on this program, and no epresentatives should be designated to represent the Association at is time. In the past, the Plastics Group and the MCA have not ported the Plastics Institute of America, and it may not be ropriate for MCA to give semblance of recognition and support he Institute. therability Research Project - NBS For the Steering Committee, Dr. W. F. Bartoe commented briefly work under way and changes in organization made by the Bureau. A special report on "Controlled-Atmosphere Tests of Plastics s" has gust been made available to member representatives. Addial special reports as well as quarterly reports will be available `ovember 15. A full-day meeting of the Steering Committee with r technical representatives is now scheduled for December 7 at time the program can be reviewed in depth. Dr. Bartoe stated that Eugene Gray of NBS was now spending 75 per cent of his time on the project and had succeeded in ving general operations and particularly communication with the rch Associates. This has proven to be a worthwhile contribution e NBS with no direct charge to MCA. With Mr. Gray directing the CMA 040245 4 program, there are currently two Research Associates and a technicia: .being supported by MCA. It is now the plan to contact Steering Com mittee members on an individual basis regarding organization that would be appropriate and in line with recommendations of the Bureau iearlier this year that one Research Associate and two technicians be tsupported by the MCA in this project. |llPlastics: A Management Dilemma" Conference This conference, held May 18, 1967, was sponsored by the Bational Industrial Conference Board. The Chairman stated that several industry representatives had raised the question on whether had supported or sponsored this program. It was made clear that be Plastics Committee or the MCA in no way participated in this conference. ******** The Committee authorized the Secretary to advise the members luring the general business meeting on the future plans of the Oyster arbors Club and the decision to meet at Seaview Country Club in 1968.
