Greasel r#: Monthly Report September, 1976 Dot*: Copies: 7 October 1976 Energy Both natural gas and ethane accountability was satisfactory throughout the month. In August, natural gas accrual was 1 . 1% above invoice and the ethane accrual was 2.1 % above invoice. Ethane which was surplus to our requirements was sold to Monsanto beginning on the 15th and continuing throughout the end of the month. Approximately 100MM BTU's were transferred. The ammonia accountability was not as good as in past months with the actual inventory 188 tons above book. Difficulty with the level gauge on the northwest sphere plus the emptying of this sphere for insulation replacement was believed to be the reason for the higher than normal difference. The difference was adjusted at month end. The DuPont Energy Management Service Group met with plant representatives on the 27th. This meeting followed preparation and submission to them of an Energy Systems Questionnaire. They are proposing to assist us in energy conservation matters in the plant. Vent gas recovery system from the no. 1 amines plant was started up and continued in service throughout the month. The no. 2 plant system continues to have instrument problems particularly on liquid level control and was operated for only a portion of the month. Corrections to the problem are being solved. The majority of the month was spent in redesigning the ammonia plant primary reformer convection section for improved heat recovery. Two AP00041929 September, 1976 Monthly Report Page 2 J. E. Greaael meetings with production and technical personnel were also held to determine preferred courses of action. The basic design for maximum heat recovery was completed. Material quotations have been requested and investigation has begun on the maimer in which the modification can best be effected in the future. The program to recalculate all natural gas and ethane meters to the same formula and base flow factors was begun in September. The calculations on the ammonia-methanol plant were completed with only minor corrections required. The boiler area and the remainder of the plant will be done in October. When completed, all flow meters will be consistent from a calculation and calibration point of view. Improved accountability of nitric acid was begun as a project in September and will continue until completed. As an initial step, a reinvestigation of the nitric acid meter in Area B has begun. Miscellaneous Continued with the ammonia plant carbonate pump project although little was accomplished in September due to the priority of other projects. Pump deliveries continue to hold with the hot solution pumps still scheduled for February and the cold pumps for March shipment. Began involvement with DNT plant restart including study of project scope and familiarization with plant equipment. E. Suarez was assigned to the Energy Group as part of his CDP training program.
