1i .s / April 2k, 193k Mr, John Schaefer Ethyl Gasoline Corporation P.0, Box 688 Pennsgrove, Hew Jersey Dear John* X am enclosing a copy of the analytical report on tank sludge and scale which may be of interest to you in connection with the cleaning of tanks which have been in use for Ethyl Fluid, Dr. Kehoe gave me your letter of April l6th prior to my recent visit to Wilmington, and I looked over the loading plant, keeping in mind your idea of installing individual vent hoods over the Ethyl Fluid bag filters, and spoke to Joe Stecker briefly about it. At the time I spoke to Jos I had not examined the plant, and after going over it, it would seem to us that if the plant is to he used fairly consistently in the future, it would be advisable to make certain changes, the first and most important of which would be the installa tion of some type of general ventilation, the same plan as is followed in the Manufacturing Building, This would not interfere with any additional plans you may have for ventilating the filter bag separately, should it he advisable to do so* At the time of my visit there was a definite odor of lead about the filters and a number of stainE on th floor. It would appear impossible to insert a catch pan beneath the filters dxiring the process of changing due to their situation and the arrangement of pipes leading from them. Some type of cesspool or sewage connection should he provided beneath the filters so that the area can be easily hosed out in the event there are any spills. The general ventilation or exhaust system should be constructed to include the present drumming equipment housed beneath the building, and some type of drainage for the drumming booth provided.
