I did not take time to include the enclosed Summary and Acknowledgements as Gary wanted the draft as soon as possible in order to get your data to E.P.A. I did not send you the draft at that time because I wanted Bernie Sobel to recalculate some of the inhalation dose-response data using a computer program that I did not have. Both Gary and Bernie liked my write-up and wanted to suggest some minor changes. They asked me to send you the draft copy on October 18 so that you could begin your review as soon as possible. I understand that you, in a discussion with Hesselberg, agreed to have a copy of the corrected draft sent to E.P.A. As you know my new job has kept me quite busy but I was determined to get this proje?ct done even if it (literally) killed me. Though being quite tired, I haive spent many evenings and week-ends over the past several months working on my write-up. I even rented a small apartment near my work for several days in order to decrease travel time and to have the space and quiet I needed. My aim was to get down on paper at least the essence of what I had hoped to have in the paper and then to depend on you, Gary and Bernie to help me get the paper to a more refined state. ! It has been over three years since I started on this project. Early on and on frequent occassions since, you indicated that you wanted me to make an independent analysis of your data using my own expertice. You said that I would have an opportunity to publish my analysis and you in turn would use the data foh your own analysis and if need be you would critique my observation}s. As you know, Bernie and Gary have also reinforced the wisdom of your discission and have allowed me the same indipendence of thought while b eing quite helpful on the many occassions in which I have asked for help, I appreciate this opportunity. My write-up has been primarily data a results with a minimum of discussion. I have also limited my comments in the introduction and have made it quite clear that these studies were tqe results of your efforts.
