Diemer, chrono Subject: FIBER PURCHASE Date; February 17, 1981 According to the accounting and tax departments, prior to 1975 fiber was "intercorporately" sold by Canadian JohnsManville Asbestos, Ltd. to Johns-Manville Products Corpora tion which then distributed it to the plants requiring fiber. After the 1975 corporate changes, the fiber was sold by Canadian Johns-Manville to Johns-Manville Sales Corporation. Prior to 1975, Johns-Manville Sales Corporation had nothing to do with intercorporate fiber. Jim Reis is out of the of fice this week but R. Cole and Ed Freeman have recommended that I verify this with him. Correspondence Date: February 5, 1981 Subject: FIBER PURCHASING - YOUR JANUARY 28, 1981 MEMO In response to your question concerning the U.S. J-M Subsidiary that purchased fiber from outside vendors (such as Colonial Sugar and Turner and Newall), I have spoken with the Accounting, Tax, Accounting Methods and Purchasing Departments, Cess McCoy and Ann Ruddy, to determine what documentation exists to support the statement that JohnsManville Sales Corporation purchased fiber from outside vendors. The persons that I questioned were unable to give me anything in writing as to which J-M company made purchases prior to 12-31-75; almost all persons feel strongly that Johns-Manville Products Corporation was the subsidiary making such purchases. As you have stated to me, most of your inquiries to Don Lyons, Kim Whelan and Pete Geleta indicate it was Johns-Manville Products Corporation which made the purchases from outside vendors. I believe I would rely on Kim Whelan's affidavit stating that Johns-Manville Products Corporation is the Johns-Manville subsidiary which made U. S. purchases of fiber; he is well informed as to what companies transacted various kinds of business during the years he was with J-M.
