Barrett, CLC * \ Discussion today with Susan Austin relative to PMR data for Texas City, 1970-1979 issued 2/25/83. All neoplasm: PMR 1.2193, 60 observed, 40 expected. This seems to conflict with our SMR data as a result of the NI0SH and UC Epidemiology Study. Susan says this is consistent for all plants and represents an artifact due to the healthy worker effect. Defects and cardiovascular disease have to show up as excesses elsewhere. The PCMR refers to.PMR's for cancer deaths. Residual digestive cancer: PCMR 6.06. Since this represents only two cases, it is statistically of no significance. No further action is warranted at this time. . * Cancer of other and unspecified sites: PCMR 1.93, 15 observed, 7.79 expected. This includes the brain tumor cases (191-192) with a PCMR of 4.64, 9 observed, 1.94 expected.
