1. The minutes of the meeting of this Committee on July 20, 1966 were reviewed.
2. Sherbrooke Laboratory
a) Mrr" Foster looked over with Mr. Cossette the tenta tive location and cost of an office for a secretary. The cost is estimated at approximately $1,500. and as there is available in the budget enough money to cover this project it was recommended that this work be done.
b) A proposed Technician's salary list, based on Univer sity rates, dated September 20, 1966 to be effective as of July .1st, i960 was recommended for approval. The reason for the indicated rai ses was to protect the University from losing Laboratory Technicians.
c) The tentative price list for confidential work done at Sherbrooke Laboratory for Q.A.M.A. member companies (the prices are to be double for work done for non-members) was approved for recommendation with the exception of the $11.00 price for McNett tests. Mr. Cossette is to check this price and report to Mr. Foster.
d) Mr. Cossette is collaborating with Dr. Massey who is
studying possible diseases resulting from asbestos exposure. Dr.
Massey has proposed a program to the University which includes the
following items; .
..
. 1 - Preparation of asbestos of known types 2 - Comparison of dust sampling methods 3 - Animal experimentation
Any requests for work done in this connection must be
arranged through Mr. Filteau or Dr. Pilnar. No samples or sugges
tions are to be acted upon except through recommendations of the
Scientific Committee.

' a) Fibre samples'stored in a garage or elsewhere for
2 to 6 weeks should be put into plastic bags to avoid changes in
the moisture content.
.
b) There is no objection to the fibre inspector giving fibre quality certificates or type samples to customers if all requests are processed through and approved by Mr. Foster.
c) The Chairman raised the question as to what method of selection the Fibre Inspector would use in 1967 on the basis of shipping information supplied by the various companies in 1966.
Also the question was raised whether companies should report tonnage shipments on F.S.U. or Colour or McNett on monthly
Shipping reports.
There was some discussion but no definite conclusions were reached.
d) A:copy of the revised list of fibres to be tested for F.S.U. in 1966 is to be sent to each member of this Committee by the Chairman.
5. Quebec Department of Natural Resources
.

Uniform Classification & OradlnPL Committee-3**
The Chairman requested Urwick and Currie to analyze F.S.U. results in relation to the Q.S. test results, the McNett test results and the Dyokerhoff test results. They propose coming up with a formula which will measure the effect of Q.S., McNett . and Uyckerhoff on the F.S.U. results,
. c) It was suggested by the Chairman that the Sherbrooke
Laboratory 6hould test all 4, 5 and 6 group fibres for F.S.U. sent to Sherbrooke instead of only those requested by the companies.
The committee felt in part that as any company could request a F.S.U, test at any time on another company's fibre that the testing of all 4, 5 and 6 fibres was not necessary.
d) Attached hereto are copies of discussions and recom
mendations concerning classification of asbestos based on F.S.U.
as well as a proposal for bag marking of F.S.U. fibres. These
data sheets were prepared by Mr. Foster for presentation to the
Q.A.M.A. Directors' meeting to be held in Quebec City on Septem
ber- 26th.
.
.7. McNett Classification
.
a) It was requested that rating of fibres by McNett be ` made on point system using for the present 3* 4.and 5 groups only.
b) If possible this should also be shown under five categories based on Air Permeability. The listing of Crudy Content of fibre in each category might be helpful.
c) Floats should not be included in any of the McNett
test ratings.
