Henderson There have been many questions about showers, gloves, coveralls, etc. After discussion with Gus Henrich, I would like to recommend the following: 1. All reactor cleaners will be supplied gloves with tight fitting wrists. These will be impervious to the reactor's material. Anyone else who might have a high degree of hand exposure to VC will also be supplied with and instructed to wear these gloves - VC unloaders, etc. 2. All reactor cleaners will be supplied with chemical shoes (rubber safety shoes), to be worn when cleaning the reactors. Anyone else who might have a high degree of exposure to VC will also be supplied with and instructed to wear this type of shoe - maintenance personnel in dirty reactors. 3. Coveralls should be supplied to all reactor cleaners, high VC concentration area personnel, maintenance people and personnel working in dusty areas. Coveralls should be of a good quality and fire retardant. - If this encompasses a large percentage of people, then supply coveralls for plant-type people only - exclude office workers, etc. These coveralls should be worn with only underwear, not over street clothes. 4. Hard hats should be worn by everyone, with attention being given-to the adjustable headband. All of the above protective items should be kept at the plant and not removed from the premises. Showers, which are not mandatory, should be encouraged by your job safety group. Any time someone is going to work in a possible high exposure area - cleaning reactors, maintaining VC handling equipment, etc., the person must wear adequate respirator equipment.
