Carlos Navarrete, General Superintendent for Methanol, Acetic Acid, and Acrylonitrile, talked to the group about communications and individual responsibilities necessary for the safe performance of our jobs. Emphasis was placed on the communications, responsibilities and overall job planning required between operations and maintenance. In the general discussion following Carlos' talk, the quality and/or use fulness of the unit/craft monthly safety meetings was criticized. As a result, the HSC agreed to develop a list of suggestions for improving the safety meetings at the next regular HSC meeting. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None - all was considered complete. NEW BUSINESS HCN Alarms o The HCN alarm and blue lights near the HCN storage system are not being observed by traffic as emergency lights. o This problem is recognized and is being reviewed along with some other HCN emergency procedures. Dock 1 TV-Remote Operated Gate o The remote operated gate was reported to be a hazard -- closed too fast and tended to block escape route. o This was investigated by M. Riddle and will be discussed at the next meeting. SC 13001 LAM014218 To: W. E. Bean, et al (HSC) 2- - 9-23-81 Warehouse A o The pipe storage needs to be improved, o The overhead crane is poor. o Both of the above items were turned over to T. Crump. Comments will be reported at the next meeting. Mark Riddle presented the plant safety statistics. There was a short discussion regarding the low attendance of the last two meetings (only four members at each meeting). No specific reasons were given for the poor attendance, but there was general agreement that better representation is needed. G. A. Danner will be the speaker at the September meeting.
