NaGtOhVaEnRNDOeRal STATE OF GEORGIA OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR ATLANTA 30334-0900 January 25, 2017 Mr. Charles Munoz USEPA Headquarters William Jefferson Clinton Building 1200 Pennsylvania Avenue, N. W. Mail Code: 1101A Washington, DC 20460 Dear Mr. Munoz, I respectfully ask that you consider appointing Georgia State Senator Rick M. Jeffares as the Southeast Regional Administrator of United States Environmental Protection Agency. Serving as Chairman of the Regulated Industries and Vice Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee in the General Assembly and decades of experience at the local level, Senator Jeffares has a clear perspective of the environmental policy throughout Georgia and around the region. Senator Jeffares would bring his experience and hands-on approach towards solving problems to the EPA. He served as City Manager of Locust Grove where he organized and funded a $10 million sewer system overhaul, as well as water system improvements for the city. Prior to this role, he was responsible for two water plants, one wastewater plant and one land application facility while he was Director of Water and Wastewater Treatment for the City of Covington. Currently, he works in the private sector as President of J&T Environmental Services, a company that provides operations and management of water and wastewater treatment plants, water distribution and collection systems. The professional challenges on state and local levels are not easy, but Senator Jeffares has handled them responsibly and honorably for decades. I know he would treat his challenges at the federal level with the same grit and determination that he possesses at the State Capitol. I would very much appreciate your consideration of his appointment. Respectfully, Tw*v Nathan Deal Governor of Georgia Sierra Club v. EPA 18cv3472 NDCA Tier 10 ED 002061 00146667-00001
