Dear Doctor Lanza: I have received and read the manuscript of Dr. Leroy Gardner on Aebestoaia. If you examined this " material you may have noticed that the first part includes eight' pages of outline, apparently as he had designed it for a lecture, including lantern slides and reference to a presentation by Dr. Vestal vho was apparently scheduled to also participate in the discussion. This outline relates to the Jther written material which was apparently designed for publication of the same material as the outlined lecture. You probably noticed that it is not completed. It ends abruptly on page 17 with the title "Asbestosis and Pulmonary Infection-* which was to be the next section. My suggestion lathat this manuscript shall be edited and closed Just where he left off and offered for ^ publication practically as he had written it. If anyone in his laboratory knows of the illustrations, which he apparently intended to use, they might be included. This material covers the oaae observations that I recall that Gardner has already published and I feel certain that this was being prepared by him for a lecturer which he was probably scheduled to give. Incidentally, I am Invited to give a talk on asbestosis in Atlantic City in June before a Society of Chest Physicians. I an wondering whether this night have been first scheduled for Gardner. Perhaps some corres pondence on his desk might show that. I can, of course, refer to his unpublished paper at that time. Please advise me as to what it is desired that I 8hall do further. XML:Vhm
