' c/o Kettering Laboratory University of Cincinnati Sden Avenue Cincinnati, Ohio Dear Bob: good friend of mine., the Medical Director of our Blood Bank here, and an authority who is well known in his field, Dr. Tibor J. Greenwalt, has posed a question on the subject of lead absorption. I know that you are certainly best qualified to answer it. He has had an inquiry from a blood bank in California regarding the advisability of accepting donor blood from men who have worked in a storage battery plant. I told him that, of, course, would depend somewhat upon the conditions . in the particular plant but that ordinarily I did not think they should be arbitrarily refused the opportunity of giving blood. I wonder if you could give him an opinion upon this matter, with any pertinent suggestions you feel indicated. Dr. Greenwalt's office is at 763 North IS Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin (53233). I suppose that you have handled everything in a very efficient manner and are now retired so far as some of your Medical Directorships are are concerned. I cannot, however, believe that you are going to'retire from the field of occupational medicine in general. We have not, as yet, decided upon a successor to my office although we are. still in the process of searching. If you have any ideas as to who might be: available for the position of Chairman of the Division of Preventive Medicine and of the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, I would appreciate your suggestions.
