Pfitzer College of Medicine Gentlemen: We are happy to report that the Faculty Committee on Research has considered your project, "Potential Hazard in the Use of Leadcontaining Hair Dyes," and have approved it. In reaching their decision, the following comment was made: "The Committee has approved the proposed study with the under standing that patients will be explicitly warned about the need to avoid exposure of the test compound to open skin lesions whether or not they are on the scalp or on the hands, that the clinicians will include in their protocol the need to carefully scrutinize the scalp for open lesions during the test period and that painstaking efforts be made to instruct the participants in the study of the need to keep the hair dye material out of the reach of children who might otherwise have access to the lead-containing material." Sincerely yours. CEK:a Associate Dean
