Tha meeting was called to order at 9:00 A. M. with the following in attendance:

IHF PRESENTATION
Drs. deTreirlle k Gross el IHF talked about a study proposed to OCF
pertaining to the biological activity el fibrous glass dust. Tha proposed
investigation pertained to tha inhalation (not injection) of fibrous glass
dust, as fellows:
1, Glass dust without binder
2, Glass dust with phead-forxnaldehyde binder
9. Glass dust with chroma binder (Choce el binders to as made)
Animals (rats and hamsters) are to be exposed. The investigation to be terminated at the end el 9 years.

XHF was asked whether thsy would submit ft proposal to NXMA based entthe needs of Ci industry fts it relates to ths health hazard of fibrous class* XHF indicated tbs would bo willing to do so.

INDEPENDENT COMPANY STUDY WITH XHF - PROGRESS REPORT
ft was reported that the following had signed the proposal relating to the intratracheal injection of mineral fibers into the lungs of animals for study:
1. United States Publie Health Service 2. Pittsburgh Plate Glass It Pittsburgh Corning 3. Johns*Manville 4. Owens-Coming approval will be given in August
U. S. Rubber and CertainTecd have not as yet signed the proposal.
PROPOSAL TO OCF FROM IHF
The proposal dated June 6, 1966, from XHF to OCF was discussed. This study relates to the biological effects of the inhalation of (Serous glass. After eztcnsiveddiscussion the Committee voted (3-1) that they should not considsr on inhalation study at this tims, but to wait and evaluats the initial results of the independent intratracheal Injection study.
CLINICAL STUDIES AVAILABLE TO NXMA
All ths companies prsssnt reportsd that no studios of any value were available with one exception. O-C had a study of 1400 employees, and would make available only certain data.
Following discussion a motion waa made, seconded and paseed
Thafeas NXMA sponsored program bo conducted by tho Industrial Hygiene Foundation to evaluate tho health hazards of fibrous glass on human boiags,
XHF io to be contacted to structure such a program (prospective and retrospective) and submit it to tho Health It Safety Committee of NXMA for consideration.

0C indicated they would be willing to make available to ZHF their medical history study for use with ths program.
After such a proposal is approvod by ths Committee it will bs submitted to ths Board of Directors for their coosids ration.
IDCNA - HEALTH AND SAFETY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
Ths Commutes fslt such a program was valuable for 2DCNA. However, ths contents of the presentation was not clearly understood by all Com* mittss members. Ths Chairman appointed H. Mesler and C. Sheckler to outline a program for Committee consideration.
OTHER BUSINESS
<*> It had been reported by Pabco that a survey of asbestos workers had been set up at the University of California.
Tha Committee advised that studies were also being con sidered in ths New England Area and ths Detroit Area on ths same subject.
Ths Committee is of ths opinion that industry should cooperate with these investigators.
(b) No data wao available for reporting of ths results of ths - air erosion teste of fibrous glass air ducts and duct liners.
(c) Ths nest Committee Meeting will be scheduled when the proposal from 2HF is received, or ether urgent business arises.
