My dear Mr. Webb: In further inference to our conversation concerning the use of tetraethyl lead in gasoline other than that now marked as ethyl gasoline, it is my understanding that it i3 the intention of your company to permit the use of tetraethyl lead In gasoline other than that so marked, in amount not to exceed 1 1/2 cc. per gallon,' that all such gasoline will have a distinctive color; and that the pumps from which such gasoline is sold will be marked with a label similar to that now used on pumps for ethyl gasoline - that is, a label with black letters on a white background, the letter to be of the same size as now used but the wording to be as follows: FOB USE AS A MOTOR FUEL ONLY CONTAINS LEAD (tetraethyl) The Service can see no objection to the above proposal, provided the recommended precautions In regard to ethyl gasoline are used (as given in Public Health Bulletin No. 162* J'The Use of Tetraethyl Lead Gasoline In its Relation to Public Health", copy enclosed) covering the mixing and marketing of ethyl gasoline.
