Please note the attached communication received frees Headquarters regarding an initial experience by a sister division in connection with the above act.
Again we want to emphasis the seriousness of the responsibility that now
rests with the employer to provide and see that safety equipment is used.
2n addition to the possibilities of penalties, etc., you must give thought
to the additional cost that will be involved in providing safety devices.
This is a factor that must be tafcon into account as it relates to iob
costs.

Our Fluid Handling division in Cookeville, Tennessee has received a citation from the Department of tebor for failing to provide appropriate equipment guards on a rotary press. As a result of this infringement/ a $700,0$ fine u imposed*
The reason for bringing this to your attention is to make certain that you are fully aware of the requirements set forth in the act and that you are shearing to the principles set forth in my memo of fey 10, 1971 (copy attached). 1 feel certain that the action taken by the Department of tabor at our Fluid Handling division will alleviate any doubts in your mind concerning the type of governmental action that we can anticipate.
I assume that you already have discussed with your bargaining unit and hsve an agreement that if any employee removes any safety equipment or fails to wear appropriate protective equipment that said emnioyee is subject to ii^^iate termination.
