Restrictions From Derivatives Due to Abnormal Blood Chemistries On Friday, July 11, 1986, a meeting was held in the E. R. Conference Room with the following people present to discuss the above subject: J. C. Delgado, Manager of Industrial Health & Hygiene, Chemicals; John Fike, Manager, Derivatives, Lake Charles; Chuck Bel Ion, Director of Employee Relations, Lake Charles; Dr. Robert C. Looney, Plant Physician, Lake Charles; and the writer. After a review of the Federal Vinyl Chloride Standards and the PPG Guidelines, the group agreed to the following policies and procedures for the Lake Charles, Plant. .1 (mployees kingpin the Vinyl II and Tri-II Plants will be monitored according TReFederal Vinyl Chloride Standards. If lab analysis reveals an abnormality of any one of the designated liver enzyme tests the employee will be retested within three weeks. If the abnormality persists, he/she will be removed from the area of potential exposure and monitored on three month intervals until all five enzymes are within the normal range. When this occurs, the Plant Physician will approve the individual to return to his/her regular job duties. If the abnormalities persist and there is no known causes for the. conditionj the employee may be subjected to further studi^s^y^^ocwoV ln*^* ternal medicine or a hepatologist to determine if there is an underly-^L ^ ing cause that would prohibit the individual from potential exposure to^V^ vinyl chloride or any other derivative in the area. If the^pffysTcian does not feel the abnormality should prohibit the individual's return ^ to the area of potential exposure a written report will be submitted by/^~St him and the person will be returned to his/her normal duty. When any two of the five liver enzyme tests are abnormal, he/she will be retested in three weeks. If the abnormality persists the individual will be removed from the area and monitored at three month intervals until such time as the condition returns to normal. If the abnormality persists, the indi vidual will receive the same considerations as explained in the preced ing discussion. If there is only one liver enzyme out of the normal range, the Plant Pjj^sici^i^w^p^use, a designated calculation as fol lows: Ten percent ofthe abTiormaT range plus one standard deviation as prescribed by the medical laboratory performing the analysis. Based on this calculations, the Plant Physician will determine if the abnor mality is within an acceptable range or not. An employee will be allowed to be restricted and return to the deriva tives area only two times. If the restriction occurs a third time, he/she shall be permanently removed and not allowed to return. Any employee restricted will be notified of this policy and will be coun seled accordingly. t 4.
