Section Number: Issue Number: Original Date: Revision Date: Title: References: Ethanolamines\Glycol Ethers Tier 3 Procedure 1704 2.1 11-11-91 Author: Michael Viator 01-21-98 Changing Out Fluid In Buffer Pots Glossary Of Equipment Identification (Text #114) 1704 Changing Out Fluid In Buffer Pots 1.0 Objective: 1.1 To replace buffer fluid to royal purple 22 buffer fluid in a safe and timely manner without compromising the atmosphere. 2.0 Responsibility: 2.1 It is the responsibility of the maintenance department to provide a procedure that will achieve the objective. 2.2 It is the responsibility of the team coaches to assure that this procedure is adhered to as per procedure. 2.3 It is the responsibility of the operational folks to change the buffer fluid as per procedure and return the equipment back to its original state but with royal purple 22 buffer fluid. 3.0 Special Notations: 3.1 All the Sundyne pump buffer pots are tied into the same vent header, so the pot vent bleeds must be tagged along with the pot you are working on. 3.2 Red tags are required because the pump may have to be left unattended for periods of time. 3.3 Breathing air is required when handling spent royal purple with oxide or ammonia in it. 3.4 Dispose of spent royal purple mixture in plastic disposal drums with polypropylene absorbent pads only and label as such. 3.5 It is suggested that the buffer fluid be changed when the pump is repaired to get a complete change over and not effect the seal by having cross contamination of ROYAL PURPLE buffer fluid. 4.0 Procedure: Date Printed: April 18, 1998 Printed Copies Of This Document Are Uncontrolled And Not Subject To Update. The Controlled Version Is Maintained In File: amge/chgteg.doc Page 1 Of 2 D0 A 059472 confident^1- 4.1 Block in the buffer fluid inlet and outlet valves. 4.2 Open the top bleed and vent the pot to the sump. 4.3 When filling the pots on P-101's and P*201's place a step ladder across the suction line. Do not stand on the suction line or any process piping. 4.4 Open the drain valve at the bottom of the pot and drain the contents into a bucket. 4.5 Close the valve at the pressure gauge remove the gauge and fill the pot at this valve. 4.6 Flush approximately two gallons of royal purple 22 into the pot and drain to bucket. 4.7 Fill pot to the proper level and replace the pressure gauge with a new gauge. 4.8 Remove all tags and clean up your work area. 5.0 Revisions: Revision 1 01-21-98 Deleted 3.6 and 4.9 Revised procedure to reflect removal of TEG from system throughout procedure.
