C. 20009 Dear Dr. Slatin: ^Kw-Due to problems which have occurred in tine early stages of the vinyl chloride inhalation project, JBT 663-037.22, we respect[fully request that we he allowed to restart the study. ft In our opinion, two major problems moke this request necessary: a) The design on the animal fec.diag system is not working satis factorily. This caused considerable weight loss in the hamsters and they have been terminated. The rats and fniee have not had .^normal weight gains and the feeder system must he redesigned. (b) Some of tlie changes deemed necessary by the MCA committee bn their last visit to the laboratory, have been made but others are delayed due to shipping dates on equipment. f1' In our opinion, to continue such an important project with animals iWhich have been stressed and in which sampling and air handling "^equipment would he changed in the near future, would compromise jjffijhe data and leave Dio-Test open to eventual criticism. We feel that all equipment changes can he made by September 1, 1973, at wliich time ihe study would he restarted with new groups of animals.
