Attached are the results of the fiber sampling done on 30 and 31 May. As you u-ill note, all fiber counts, with one exception, were veil below the present TLV of 5 fibers per ml and below or very close to the 1976 TLV of 2 fibers. The exception was the 6th level of the furnace area'where the sample indicated 8.3 fibers per ml. Apparently, the ' heat rise and exhaust fans at this level.tend to concentrate fibers as well as; visible dust. 1 suggest evaluation of the problem by further sampling at the 5th level and lower'levels. .In the interim, if anyone is required to spend more chan a very brief period of time at the 6ch level, a respirator Is suggested as a precautionary measure.
The 2.1 fibers at the discharge end of the 01 drier indicate that the drier room is an area whore more extensive testing is advisable. I doubt if there is a problem but further data should be obtained.
I an sending separately, the clips and more sampling heads. Also, Frank- Serafin, our Laboratory Director, is preparing instructions for constructing a simple apparatus to calibrate your air sampling pumps.
