Specifically, two private drinking water wells were sampled from the local community; one well in the Point East subdivision (located about 5050 feet from the facility PFOA stack and less than 100 feet from the closest facility property boundary) and another well in the Marshwood Lake area (located about 4530 feet from the same stack and about 700 feet from the closest facility property boundary). Both samples were analyzed, at two separate commercial laboratories, for the compound perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA or C-8). The private well owners have been notified of the results for their respective well. Both laboratories reported that there was no detectable amount of PFOA in the Point East well sample. One laboratory reported that there was less than a quantifiable amount of PFOA in the Marshwood Lake well sample, meaning that the PFOA concentration was less than 0.013 pg/L or less than 0.013 parts per billion. The second laboratory reported a measured quantity of PFOA at 0.011 pg/L or 0.011 parts per billion. This measurement was just above that laboratory's level of. quantification for PFOA of 0.010 pg/L or 0.010 parts per billion. , A copy of the reports from both laboratories will be forwarded separately when final. : O ') Although DuPont does not believe that the information provided in this letter meets the criteria for TSCA section 8(e) reporting, DuPont is forwarding this information to the EPA public docket identified above and, as a precaution, to the EPA TSCA 8(e) office, in light of the Agency's continued interest in perfluorinated substances. r*^ Very truly yours, .. rv> Andrea V.
