OBVIOUSLY NOTHING IN THIS BULLETIN SHOULD BE CONSTRUED AS A RECOMMEN DATION TO USE ANY PRODUCT IN CONFLICT WITH EXISTING PATENTS COVERING ANY MATERIAL OR ITS USE. Aroclor HDK-1 is a chlorinated biphenyl product, similar chemically to Monsanto's other Aroclor products in the 1200 series. It was developed to provide the electrical industry with an Aroclor product with a higher dielectric constant than is now available, and was designed to be com parable in all other respects to Aroclor 1242. Listed below is a com parison between the physical and electrical properties (typical) of Aroclor 1242 and Aroclor HDK-1. Form Color, APHA Scale . Total Acid Number, Mg. KOH/g. Paper Contact: Paul Stainer, Sales P. J. Schweitzer Lee, Massachusetts (413) 243-1000 I obtained the following information: (a) Kraft capacitor tissue (thickness: 0.0004-.0005) sells for $1.00 per pound. (b) 0.0003 thickness ^ $2.00 per pound but little of this grade used. (c) Thicker grades used in motor-run will be a little under $1.00/lb. (d) Tecumsahr set the specifications which govern the thick ness and density used. (e) Volume discounts are still prevalent. (f) Contrary to our view, Stamer claims they still have 2 major competitors in capacitor tissue: Crocker Technical Products (formerly owned by Weyerhauser) at Fitchburg and J. p. Stevens at Westfield. (g) In aluminum foil. Republic Foil at Danbury, Connecticut is number one, followed by Reynolds Metal and Revere Copper & Brass. (h) Dr. Bill Selke is head of Schweitzer's technical effort on capacitor tissue paper. *; IN - tO REV. 1/72 DSW 283661 * STLCOPCB4065080 -2- 2. Aluminum f Contact: Republic Foil (Sales Department) Danbury, Connecticut (203) 743-2731. The following prices were obtained. They are very much ballpark figures. (a) P.F. correction capacitors (11.5 - 13" wide). Base prices start at $0.80-0.90/lb. (b) Ballast paper/foil capactiors $0.80-0.90/lb. He indicated as an example that Aerovox would pay *** $0.85/lb. for the grade they use. Someone buying in 200-500 lb. lots would pay just over $1.00/lb. .(c) Etched foil for small (->~5jifd) motor-run capacitors costs $3.00-4.00/lb. for the anode foil and $1.80 2.50/lb. for the cathode grade. This may be of use in trying to determine the market value of our new fluids. Other than stating that MICC made Aroclor and we liked to stay abreast of other capacitor components I gave no reason for my calls. Stamer of P.J. Schweitzer was particularly cordial and helpful.
