Wood About a month ago a nationally televised news story re ported on the schools in New Jersey which had been closed because of a concern to the health of students from asbestos fibers. Apparently, high school students were able to damage the sprayed asbestos fiber acoustical material in corridors. The concern was that fibers were being released to the air. Because of this news story, a number of building owners are raising questions regarding safety of.occupants in buildings that have fireproofing or other sprayed materials which contain '' asbestos. We have received several questions where M0N0K0TE3 is involved. Prior to nid-1973, MONOKOTE (MK-3) was formulated with 10% to 15% commercial asbestos. However, because in-place MONOKOTE is a hard plaster-like material, it is our opinion that in-place MK-3 poses no health hazard to building occupants. GRACC February 1, 197 Page 2 Our present MONOKOTE formulations, as you know, are manu factured without the use of any commercial asbestos. Therefore, buildings which have been sprayed with either MK-A or MK-5 will obviously not have the problem of asbestos coming from the inplace MONOKOTE. We have had several requests from architects for "certifi cation" regarding the in-place properties of MONOKOTE. For your reference, attached is the certification statement which we have used to respond to these requests. Should you receive similar requests, please refer these to your regional manager.
