I. ASBESTOS - During tha paat year, a raporc was aanc to
you outlining tha ailagad increasing incidence and concern over
aabastosis, sesotheliosa, and other related carcinomas in people
with relatively ninor exposure to asbestos. We are enclosing two
sore obviously controversial articles on this subject, presenting
both sides of the question, for your consideration.
In an effort to define our problsn in this area and to develop che necessary preventive neasures, where indicated, we are
asking you to provide us with the following infometion end to return
it to us as soon as possible.

B. How aeny acployees do part-tiass insulating? N (s) What proportion of the time?
C. -List the (three) most prevalent type of insulating aaterial used.
D. Are they doing any spraying of insulating sataria Is U39 at your location?

of chronic bronchitis, emphysema, lung cancer, etc., it is imperative
that ve obtain as much information as possible on our etployees*
pulmonary status to:
A. guide us in providing the necessary preventive measures.
B. accumulate data for possible legal action in the future.
In connection with this point, e pilot study le underway at
Chambers Work, using equipment end tests recommanded by
Dr. Tomashefskl, a specialist in pulmonary function.screening tests
at the Ohio Stats University Medical Center, to determine our best
plan of actios. Za the future, definite recommendations will be
forthcoming concerning equipment, teete, end programs.

It ie suggested that you refrain from purchasing any ex
pensive equipment or initiating any definitive program until such
recommendations ere received, so to insure a uniform companyvide
policy.
