I am sending you herewith tvo copies of an analytical report on the lead content of the braid tissue sent in to us by D r . T'onuldcon. As you will note, the results are very much higher than those obtained in the laboratory in Cleveland, and these results are quite compatible vith a diagnosis of fatal lead poisoning.
In order that there m y be no misunderstanding, i should point out that the analytical result is not sufficient ground in
hitself for ariuv -;r-? c at the diagnosis. Such, a diagnosis could
only bo made on the basis of the clinical evidence of the
ature of the man5 illness. On this account, if 1 wore to be ashed my opinion, I should have to ssy that it would be necessary for me to have complete information concerning the nature and course of this nan *3 illness. This, X believe, would require careful examination of the hospital record, plus any additional information that might be obtained from the physicians who are in charge. The analytical result, however, does establish that this man has had a severe exposure to lead p and that the severity was such that lead encephalopathy could have resulted.
I am assuming, of course, that the brain tissue was handled in such a way as to avoid its contaminafclon.wi.th extraneous lead compounds. If the tissue had been fixed in contaminated forma lin, or if it had been put in a container that could have con taminated seriously, then these results are irrelevant. However, 1 va3 careful to cut off all superficial tissue from, the samples that were analyzed, and as you will note two samples were
examined and the results were cross checked by means of two totally different methods of analysis. I think, therefore, w can accept them as a satisfactory portrayal of the facts. This changes the picture somewhat, but in my opinion it is always wise to knov the truth in these matters
X send you an additional copy of both the report and this letter so that you can forward them to your attorney.
