This submission provides updated PFOA serum sampling results for employees at the First Chemical Corporation (a wholly owned subsidiary of the DuPont Company) Pascagoula, Mississippi site.
In 2003, samples were taken from 73 employee volunteers prior to the startup of a process to produce firefighting foam surfactants.1 In August 2006, samples were collected from 93 employees, some of whom had baseline samples collected in 2003. Results from the August 2006 sampling event, along with results from the prior sampling event in 2003, are provided in Attachment 1.
The results from the 2006 sampling event show PFOA levels that are generally corroborative of the results from the December 2003 sampling event for the Pascagoula site.2 In addition, the results of both sampling campaigns (i.e., 2003 and 2006) show PFOA levels consistent with those previously reported to be found in the general population.3
