Dear Bill, I was certainly sorry that I did not get a chance to see you again while in Los Angeles but due to the fact that we had to meet Dr. Sanders in Salt Lake City on Friday after the meeting, Bill Heck and myself had to leave Thursday night on the Streamliner. I recently had a call from the Standard Oil Co. of Ind. here in Casper and they advised that they had a section of 6" pipe which was taken from their "Red Crown" (Q) tankcar loading rack lino. This line has been in this service from five to seven years. The foreman on the pipefitting job noted that this line contained a deposit and brought it to the attention of Mr. Harry Cotton, Supt. of this refinery. Mr. Cotton had their Chemist analyze some of this deposit and his findings were that it contained 2.860$lead as well as iron rust. I discussed this with Dr. Sanders while he was in Casper and he suggested that I forward this section of pipe to you for your observation. This is going forward today by express. Both Mr. Cotton and myself would appreciate your comments on the handling of pipe in this condition, i.e ., both hot and cold work. Mr. Cotton also advised that thoir Chemist stated that in his opinion the lead found is both organise and inorganic as it was possible to char the sample.
