Re: Asbestos Monitoring I.FJ.E Unit June 15, 1987
Dear Hill:
This is my report on the air sampling survey conducted at the LF?,E Unit at Shell on Monday evening. June 15. 1937.
Four Shell laborers were involved in the cleanup and bagging of asbestos,
contaminated debris from beneath the furnaces on the unit. lhe work was
supervised by Jim Strohberk.
nil employees wore disposable protective
clothing and respirators. The cleanup area and approximately 50 feet downwind
was roped off and designated a=- the controlled 2one.
The asbestos
contaminated materials were wetted down fairlv thoroughly to reduce the
generation of dust. Due to the elevated ambient temperatures and high
relative humidity, frequent breaks were taken by the workers for heat relief.
Four air samples were collected using MSA Model G air samolinq pumps and 25 mm MCE filter cassettes. Filters were analyzed at Microscopic Analysis. Inc. for airborne fibers. Two personal samples were collected. An area sample was collected in the immediate work area and one downwind at the edge of the controlled zone. Results are summarized in table 1.
The airborne fiber concentrations were very low. One personal sample yielded a result of 0.003 f/cc and the other three wem n.003 f/rr.
Please call if there aie any questions.
Very truly yauiS.
