There appears to be no overt evidence that "PCB" ie contaminating Japan. Thorc has been frank interest in reports from the U.S. A. about bird and shrimp damage, but even with high governmental interest in both areas and with critical review of shell fish, there is no evidence of contamination. The human exposure to Kaneclor that accidentally contaminated food oil has been studied extensively and tighter controls instigated on heating installations for food oil. Exposures to mercury, cadmium, other heavy metals are being stringently surveyed. The lead content of gasoline was cut by 50% beginning June 1, 1970. Both air and stream pollution are being monitored. No limitations have been applied to PCB. ' Kogulati.-ns on,usc of chlorinated aromatic insecticides are under study but DDT, BHC and TCB are still being used in open environment. NCK-Jaoan and paper companies making "carbon-less" copy paper are following developments very closely and will eliminate Arocior 1242 or equivalent Kaneclor when it is decided at NCR-D&yton which product is preferred - - HB40 may bo advantageous for clay granules and an alkyl biphenyl for synthetic resin granules MMK proposes to sell Arocior 1242 as long as NCR-Jap&n orders and will supply HB40 or alternate as quickly as we can set up manufacture. (HB40 is now scheduled to start up in March, 1971.) General Policy 1) MMK will manufacture and sell all Aroclors that are marketable, including Arocior 1248, 1254 and 1260.
